Community Work

   Rivermont School

Currently I teach and sponsor three clubs during the school year. Below is a listing of the clubs and information about each.

National Art Honor Society Chapter

2005 was the first year for Floyd Central High School to have a Chapter of the National Art Honor Society. The society is part of the National Art Education Association. There are 23 members ranging from sophomore to senior. In order to be a member students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in an art course throughout the year. The chapter focuses on promoting the arts to the community and working to showcase the arts program of the school. Currently the chapter is working on two murals in the high school for the R.O.T.C. and the S.T.A.N.D. club (Socially Together and Naturally Diverse). The students in the chapter are also working to start a workshop program where they work with Elementary students on the weekend and after school promoting the arts. Students are also working on various fundraising activities including working with local artists to complete a sketchbook to sell and benefit the chapter and other arts activities at the school.

Comics and Anime Club

The Comics and Anime Club was started at Floyd Central through a student petition. I sponsor the organization, which meets once a month to discuss the topics of comic and anime art. We talk about jobs in the art industry, tools of the trade, and various artists and techniques. Currently there are 33 members in the group and growing each month.

Portfolio Art Club

The Portfolio Art Club was started in 2004 for art students who intend on pursuing higher education in the arts industry after high school. The club consists of 15 students, juniors and seniors who are enrolled in the Advanced Art course at school. These students meet during and after school on a regular basis to complete portfolio critiques, learn about portfolios and college admissions, scholarships, and college life in the arts. Currently we have students accepted to the Art Institute of Chicago, Kansas City Art Institute, Savannah College of Art and Design, Ball State, Herron College of Art, and many others. Two students are currently competing in the National Scholastic Competition for scholarships worth over $10,000.
